The empty storefront at 3380 Chicago Drive has a different kind of landlord. Terra Square belongs to the City of Hudsonville. The restaurant space inside it, which housed Bosco's Pub until June 2025, will next be filled by a tenant the city recruited itself, according to WOOD TV8's reporting. That tenant is Pinwheel Kitchen, the quick-service spinoff of New Holland Brewing's famous pinwheels. It's expected "late this fall." The city said in June that an opening date would come "in the coming months," and in August WOOD reported there was still no exact date.
The Wednesday farmers market wrapped its 2026 season on September 30, so the building has gone quiet for a while. Hudsonville chose a takeout shop for the space, with a non-alcoholic drink menu and a patio shared with Terra Square's courtyard. Meanwhile, the downtown drinks scene moved across School Avenue.
Terra Square was never a private development that happened to rent to restaurants. The building started as the DeWeerd-Hartman, later Hartman Chevrolet, dealership, built in 1949. The City of Hudsonville and its Downtown Development Authority bought the vacant property to turn it into a community gathering hub. According to a Michigan Municipal League account, the project began when residents said in a survey that they wanted a permanent farmers market. It was paid for mostly with a $4.6 million bond plus more than $180,000 in community donations.

City staff run the building today. The city's fall 2025 newsletter lists Lindsey Hicks as Marketing and Terra Square Director. A Terra Square Advisory Board weighs recommendations on vendor rates, event contracts and use policies. So the restaurant tenant isn't just a business that set up next to the market. The city chose it to serve the market, the weddings and showers booked in the event space, and the courtyard crowds.
Bosco's Pub wrapped up its time at Terra Square in June 2025, and as MLive reported, the team called it "the end of one chapter" and said it was looking for a new home.
From there, picking the next tenant was up to the city. City Manager R. Tyler Dotson said in the city's June announcement that talks with Pinwheel leadership dated "back to late last year." Pinwheel restaurant manager Nick Otten told WOOD that the city was looking for a tenant and approached Pinwheel Kitchen. He described the space as a blank slate for Pinwheel and said, "we've got a real big pizza oven and I'm ready to serve the masses with this thing."
The city's release describes a streamlined menu built around signature pinwheels: the Trendsetters for hot-honey fans, the Bacon Dill-icious, the Backyard Bacon BBQ and Cinna-Wheels for dessert. There will also be snacks, salads and "a variety of non-alcoholic beverages." In a building where the last tenant was a pub, that drink list is a real change.
It also matches the way Terra Square actually gets used. Otten explained the appeal of the format to WOOD:
"You grab your four-piece. You can walk around and take it with you. It's not like you're taking a whole pizza pie and you need plates and all that stuff."
That's the food you'd want at a rain-or-shine market or a free evening shopping event. The Hudsonville location will focus on takeout but will have indoor seating, a front patio and a back patio shared with Terra Square. Otten said Pinwheel hopes to bring live music to that shared patio. New Holland President and CEO Brett VanderKamp tied the choice of location directly to the calendar: "Hudsonville's energy and events make this the perfect next chapter for the Pinwheel model."
A little background for anyone who has only had pinwheels at a New Holland table. According to Otten, the savory version was born in 2009 at the Holland brewpub, when staff rolled pepperoni and cheese into the dough of a cinnamon-sugar dessert twist. The first standalone Pinwheel Kitchen opened next to New Holland's Grand Haven tasting room in 2025, which makes Hudsonville its second dedicated shop. The Hudsonville shop will run under its own LLC, separate from New Holland Brewing.
In August, Otten called a fall opening "realistic," but he gave no exact date. The city has said it will announce the date on its Facebook page and website.
While Terra Square's restaurant space shifts toward takeout and mocktails, the bourbon moved in nearby. Legacy Winery & Spirits opened in August at 5400 School Ave., on the ground floor of the Terra Station apartments off Chicago Drive. Owners Lance and Anjalie Wassink set a grand opening for August 22. FOX 17 reported that the signature draw is barrel thieving. You sample bourbon straight from five barrels and can buy a bottle of your favorite. WOOD TV8 noted cocktails and mocktails on the menu, with wine service expected once a pending license came through. Legacy's own site now lists the tasting room as open.
The same address now has a bakery too. FOX 17 covered the grand opening of Anna's Little Bakery at 5400 School Ave. Owner Anna Vreugdenhil runs a bakery-café with baked goods, coffee, custom cakes and wedding catering. Dairy-free, nut-free or gluten-free versions are available by request.
Add it all up and downtown dining is now spread across two corners of School Avenue and Chicago Drive. Coffee and cake sit next to a bourbon tasting room in the Terra Station building, and the city-owned market hall is about to get a portable comfort-food counter. A little farther out, Thai Landing opened this summer at 3830 32nd Ave. after construction delays. Owner Sawalee Taylor told FOX 17 she plans to continue her Christmas pay-what-you-can dinner tradition.
With the farmers market done for the year, Terra Square's next big nights are its seasonal markets. Both are free. Pinwheel is supposed to open into these, along with the rest of downtown's fall and winter schedule:
Driving an EV to the Fall Market? The City and DDA say a two-port Blink charger is now working in the School Avenue lot between Service Drive and Central Boulevard. You can pay by card or through the Blink app.
The Nature Center is also getting a grant-funded upgrade. A Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund award, announced by the governor's office on August 20, gives Hudsonville $400,000 for a 30-space parking lot and trailhead patio there. Like Terra Square, it's a public gathering place the city is building out.
At Welcome Home West Michigan, we love watching Hudsonville's downtown fill in one storefront at a time.
